Greetings, Donor!
Are you fully recovered from COVID-19, or suspect you may have had COVID-19 but weren’t tested – and have been symptom free at least 14 days?
If so, your blood or platelet donation could help COVID-19 patients. COVID-19 antibodies are being tested on all contributions. If your donation is antibody positive, we can use it to make convalescent plasma for COVID-19 patients, and the remaining blood components will be used to aid other patients with critical illnesses.
Notes of importance:
- To qualify, donors must meet all other eligibility conditions.
- If you are not feeling well, please do not donate blood. Active coronavirus infection is not tested in blood donors.
- If you’ve had any COVID-19 vaccine, you’re still eligible to donate blood or platelets if you meet all other conditions.

COVID Plasma as a Potential Therapeutic Agent
As an exploratory treatment, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the transfusion of convalescent plasma. To assist patients with active, dangerous COVID-19 infections, Vitalant is collaborating with hospitals to collect, process, and distribute plasma.
In addition, Vitalant Research Institute is working on technology to detect and quantify COVID-19 virus-fighting antibodies.
Patients or members of their families in need of convalescent plasma
Individuals do not receive convalescent plasma from Vitalant. Please speak with your doctor about the possibility of receiving this treatment.
*The FDA has not approved or licensed COVID-19 convalescent plasma; nevertheless, the FDA has authorized COVID-19 convalescent plasma under an emergency use authorisation (EUA); COVID-19 convalescent plasma is only authorized during the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of emergency use of medicines and biological products during the COVID-19 pandemic under section 564(b)(1) of the Act, 21 U.S.C. § 360bbb-3(b)(1), unless the authorization is terminated or revoked sooner.
